In late 2022 and again in June 2023, I was grateful to be able to facilitate a smartphone storytelling workshop with about 18 participants who came out on a Sunday afternoon to learn how to get the best out of their phones when shooting and editing videos. This was organised through Wyndham City’s Digital Art 101 Series. Participants were able to learn filmmaking and editing techniques and then adventure down to the Werribee River (pictured above) to capture footage. Some completed entire short films and presented them to the class. It was loads of fun!
In April 2023, through Colour Box Studio, I was pleased to host ‘Protecting Our Stories’ – an Australian South Sea Islander (ASSI) community legal literacy workshop in collaboration with the Queensland United Australian South Sea Islander Council Inc. and Arts Law. This first online workshop went really well and was the start of what will be an ongoing conversation.
In June, I was honoured to be part of a discussion panel at the St Kilda Film Festival, Power and Access: Seeing Ourselves in Short Films co-presented by The Other Film Festival.
It’s been great to connect with the community through these events.
