The Game, 4 mins
April 2007
On a street corner opposite the Little Saigon Supermarket in Footscray, Melbourne, everyday a group of Vietnamese men can be seen huddled around some tables. The draw card for these men is the game of Chinese Chess. Despite the fact that many of them came to Australia in the 1980s as empty-handed refugees – they brought with them the tradition of a game that is over 1000 years old. Day after day, game after game is played, battles are fought, won and lost – but one thing remains – to these men Chinese Chess is much more than just a game.
